Iron infusions using iron sucrose provide an effective intravenous therapy that delivers elemental iron directly into the bloodstream. Because it bypasses the digestive system, absorption is faster and significantly more efficient than oral supplements. This is especially beneficial for patients who do not tolerate oral iron well or who require a quicker, more reliable way to restore iron levels.

Whether you prefer the comfort of your own home or an in-clinic visit at our Bedford, TX location, we make it easy to get the iron therapy you need.

IV Iron Infusion Questions

IV iron dosing is customized based on your lab results, symptoms, and provider assessment. Most patients receive 200 mg infusions, typically requiring a series of treatments to restore iron levels.

Patients may require five 200 mg infusions, though some may need fewer, and in some cases, a single infusion may be sufficient.

We also offer a 500 mg infusion option for patients who may benefit from higher dosing in fewer visits.

If you already have recent labs showing a CBC, ferritin, serum iron, and TIBC completed within the last two weeks, additional lab work is not required. If you do not have recent results, we offer an extremely affordable $35 iron panel that can be drawn at any Labcorp location. This ensures we have accurate, up to date information to safely determine whether iron therapy is appropriate for you. When lab work is drawn, results are generally received within 24hrs.

Once recent lab work is available, our medical providers carefully review your medical history, current symptoms, and laboratory results. You will then complete a telehealth visit where the provider evaluates you directly, answers any questions, and determines whether iron therapy is appropriate. If indicated, the provider will prescribe a personalized treatment plan based on your specific needs and lab findings.

In most cases, you can begin treatment the same day we receive and review your lab work. Once labs are available, our providers complete a telehealth evaluation and, if appropriate, your first infusion can be scheduled immediately.

Frequently asked questions

Find answers to common questions about our Iron infusions.

Are iron infusions safe?

All medical treatments carry some level of risk. However, iron sucrose has a very low rate of serious reactions, estimated at approximately 1 in 200,000 administrations. Most patients tolerate treatment well.

Patients are monitored during and after the infusion, and our clinical team is trained and prepared to promptly manage any reaction should one occur.

Your first iron infusion typically takes about 1 hour to infuse, followed by a 30 minute observation period for safety.

Subsequent infusions are shorter, usually 15 minutes to infuse, with the same 30 minute observation period afterward. During the observation time, you may choose to receive a vitamin infusion, so the time is used efficiently rather than wasted.
